Guild Message Board
The idea is simple.
A message board free for anyone in the guild to use, to leave messages to other members when they are offline, or simply to display information, whether it be event times or other useful notices that cant be put into the notice section of the guild panel.
Messages posted on the message board will not be automatically displayed like the guild notices upon login to avoid any unwanted messages. The message board, much like the notices will be accessed in a new tab under the guild box.
This is practical, and it would be a sure help to pass on information between timezones, eliminating some of the communication difficulties between members of international or multi timezone guilds.
Thoughts?

Guild Leader and Officers can remove any message at anytime and maybe a timer when you post a message "Show message for 12/24/48 hours"
Nice idea though

how bout this idea, an alliance cape that the alliance members can wear when doing stuff with the alliance, and an alliance message system that the leader of the alliance, the guild leaders and officers can write on thats like the guild message system but spreads to the alliance so that its easier to get important information to all of the alliance.

I don't see why they could not do this. It would help my guild keep in contact more without stressing over a website.

And it's that hard to tell an officer something you want posted in the message board right now?

1. Free Forum URLs tend to be long and complicated.
2. Why register on a Guild forum if you can gain access to all GW related material on specialized websites like this?
3. Why register on a forum for a guild you might leave in 2 days or 2 hours ?
4. inter-guild communication is always good.
5. perhaps expanding the message board capabilities to include the Alliance.
the "use forums" is not a solution you might as well tell CSS players to use the telephone.

i have to say i'm loving the response here.
"just use the forum" is not a solution, its a workaround.

Anet answer:
- Servers are not free. Use external forums.
People do that. Setting the game windowed is so easy to make those things easier.

The Op is not asking for a forum. (s)hes presenting the idea of expanding the current capabilities of the Guild Message Board to include all members in a separate tab. Its not radically different to what we have now and improves communication.
its like leaving a note on the fridge to the rest of the family. I fail to see why one should have to buy a whole white-board to do that when bit of scrap paper and a cheap magnet does the trick.
In fact i see it as more of a Party window that would store a line of text but only for Guild Members, messages could be modified only by the OP or of course Guild Officers (to curb abuse).
I dunno what the exact figures are but im guessing from game experience that the VAST majority of Guilds evolve at members number of about 20 to 30.
With the member turnover that Guilds have, for example; mine has a turnover of +5 or+4 per month followed by maybe -3 or -4 during the same period due to them leaving (willingly or not) having a Forum dedicated to the guild quickly turns into a very "cliquish" place where the "Core" group post about various things....but the new players just don't use it for all the reasons mentioned above.
Not asking for a mega drain on server resources here, just either a new message tab available to all or even better an adapted Party Search Window available to Guild only where 1 line texts can be stored from members for all to see.

Have you ever seen how many guilds are there.
There are a lot of players that make single-player guilds just to have their own capes.
And have you seen the Guild Message panel? It's REALLY limited in number of characters, really a few. You have to use crapy SMS slang to fit bigger messages. If they could make it bigger, or the party search strings bigger, they would have already done so.
They can't because space is limited in such matters.

why on earth would single players in their guild want to message themselves, in the end its only a single message IE: line of text, in anycase.
Players chat to each other constantly. i dread to think how many MILLIONS lines of text goes through Anet servers at any given moment...but hold on.
Text does not just "go Through" the server its actually stored because we know (and Anet has admitted to) that they keep LOGS of all our conversations. my guesstimate is about 2 weeks or less.
so they stick a 48H timer on the messages in the Guild Party Board, i'm cool with that.
Anet have the resources to do this. impact would be minimal on their side.
player and Guilds would greatly benefit.

i just ran the math.
I seriously hope that Anet is using a better program than notepad to store text but i can compare with only this.
I understand that there would be more to it that just server space but somehow I doubt that the bandwidth drain would be much considering what exactly we are running here and the amount of data that we would be receiving.
this is NOT a drain on resources. It would be helpful.

I wholeheartedly agree with Sleeper service on this one. I simply haven't seen a convincing reason why not to do it - and the benefits are certainly there to be had.
